Most computer problems build up slowly, which makes them easy to ignore. If any of these sound familiar, a checkup is worth it.
The five signs
- It is slower than it used to be. Long start-up times and programs that hang are often fixable without replacing anything.
- Pop-ups or strange browser behavior. New toolbars, a changed home page or ads where there were none can point to unwanted software.
- It runs hot or the fan is always loud. That can mean something is working it too hard, or that dust is blocking airflow.
- You keep postponing updates. Updates often contain security fixes, so waiting leaves gaps open.
- You are not sure you have a backup. If your photos and files only live on this one computer, one failure could lose them.
What a PC checkup covers
- Updates. Making sure nothing important is waiting.
- Backups. Setting up or checking that your photos and files are safe.
- Speed. Reducing what slows it down so it feels quicker.
- Security settings. Checking your protection and showing you what to watch for.
- Cleanup. Clearing junk and leftovers so it is tidy and working well.
